Casanova Jones

Hero Casanova Jones, "a gentleman sober, a gentleman blotto," is a Prohibition agent whose wife runs a speakeasy. "Consider the bitter and sorrowful life, of a revenue agent with a bootlegger wife!" Casanova's wife is a true seditionist, "with a countenance stern and a heart that was stony..." Into Casanova's loneliness, "his soul on the winds of temptation is blown..." -- enters the beautiful but thick Annabel Cloy, who imagines herself quite the poet. She's overjoyed when Casanova, pretending to be a publisher, says he will print her Poems of Passion. Thus begins the tale of troubling temptations -- "of hell a-popping in many directions."
