Remarks on a society at Harvard College, 1721-1723, on an agreement between Harvard students, March 31, 1770, and the Martimercurian Company, 1771

At the January 1921 meeting of the Colonial Society of Massachusetts, Albert Matthews presented on two documents pertaining to Harvard College history; these documents are transcribed within the article. The first document was a dedication to John Leverett from a sermon preached by Thomas Robie (Harvard College Class of 1708). The document alludes to a "society of Young Students, who meet on the Lord's-Day-Evenings for Religious Exercises in the College." According to Matthews, this is the earliest allusion to a Harvard College student society.

The second document contains an agreement, dated March 31, 1770, between Benjamin Chadwick (Harvard College Class of 1770) and Peter Heyliger (Harvard College Class of 1772) to switch lodgings. On the other side of the document is a list of the officers of the Martimercurian Company at College, 1771.
