About This Book
The subject of this investigation are representations of wreathed figures on Attic ceramics, which can be assigned to the ritual contexts of the festivals in honor of deities in the archaic-classical period by means of identified pictorial elements. The aim of the work is to use these representations to show the importance of the wreath in the area of action of the divine festivals. Since fixed contexts can be determined with the help of the various wreath representations, the botanical determination of the various leaf types is a focus. In addition, the symbolic meaning of the wreath as well as the perception processes of observers of ritualized actions are worked out. -- Publisher's description
