About This Book

In the 1960's Wilcox County was one of the 10 poorest counties in the United States. Down home is a social portrait of Camden, located in rural Wilcox County, 40 miles south of Selma and 70 miles southwest of Montgomery in the heart of black-belt Alabama. The photographs were taken over a five year period between 1965-1970 by Bob Adelman and the text is comprised of the resident's own words.
