About This Book

A main protagonist of Argentine artistic modernity, sculptor Alfredo Bigatti (Buenos Aires 1898-1964) belonged to the generation that, formed in Europe, contributed with his work and his ideas to the reformulation of plastic languages, during the first half of the 20th century. The book presents a wide photographic collection of his works and a selection of documents from his personal archive, together with a theoretical body that proposes new interpretations and readings, within the framework of the insertion of the avant-garde in artistic institutions, teaching and iconography of the nation through memorials. Bigatti's most outstanding work is probably the National Historic Monument to the Flag, made in collaboration with the architects Ángel Guido and Alejandro Bustillo, and the sculptor José Fioravanti.
