About This Book

This pamphlet, published in at least 5 editions, first came out in 1933. The fifth ed. (32 pages) was released in 1945, which is the version I own. It was reprinted in 1947, 1950 and 1951 and may have been the last ed. It is a reprint of an article that, I believe from a comment in the booklet, was first published in the Medical Journal of Australia. It describes Windeyer's, at the time, well-known methods for adbominal diagnosis during pregnancy and labor. Topics addressed include: abdominal inspection (what to look for and how to see it), general palpation skills, measurement of fundal height, detailed techniques for specific palpation skills to descern such features as the location of the fetal back, shoulder (location in relation to midline and height above pubic bone), position of the head, size of head in relation to brim, estimating the size of the fetus, X-ray examination, vaginal examination, rectal examination, a brief review of pelvimetry parameters.
