About This Book

Includes a large database of images (coins, vases, sculpture), Greek and Latin texts and translations, resources for textual studies, and English word searches of the texts.

"The Perseus Digital Library is 'an evolving digital library of resources for the study of the humanities.' Though the Project initially focused on texts relating to ancient Greece, the site's contents gradually expanded to include Latin text and tools and Renaissance-related materials. Further collaborations with the site's host, Tufts University Digital Collections and Archives led to the inclusion of Tufts University historical material, the Bolles Collection on (19th century) London, and materials on the United States' westward expansion and other materials of early American history including the American Civil War. The site features powerful search tools as well as access via tables of contents, subject, collection, and material type browsing. The word study tool, one of the most valuable tools for Classicists, generates a page of links to all the uses of a particular Latin word in the Perseus online collection. The site includes literally countless texts, images, maps, and facsimiles from Ancient Egypt to the Civil War and 19th-century London."--"Best Free Reference Web Sites 2003," RUSA Quarterly, Fall 2003; reviewed Feb. 7, 2003.
