About This Book

Vern Haugland, an AP correspondent, having hitched a ride aboard a B-26 bomber is forced to bailout with the crew in the middle of the night over the jungles of New Guinea. Lost for 42 days and nearing death from starvation and the sultry elements, he comes to accept that there is a God looking over him.

After Haugland is found and taken to a U.S. Military hospital by natives, he was visited by General Macarthur who awarded him a Silver Star, the first such medal to be awarded to a civilian in WWII.
