About This Book

Peter Hartley was captured in Singapore at the age of 21 by the Japanese. He tells of his ordeal during three and a half years of captivity and his escape from a torpedoed "hell ship".
Footnote: After the war Peter was ordained and, following in his father’s footsteps, became the vicar of Elstow, Bedfordshire in 1953. Elstow is famous as the home of John Bunyan. In 1976 he was appointed Canon Residentiary of Bermuda Cathedral and died in 1992. His ashes are buried in Elstow’s Churchyard.
