This collection consists of the correspondence, plantation records, writings, and diaries of John Francis Hamtramck Claiborne, a lawyer, Democratic newspaper editor, U.S. representative, plantation owner, and historian. His records include slave transactions and other matters of business on the plantation, as well as information on slavery and the slave trade.
