About This Book
The movie "The Age of the Earth" (A Idade da Terra), was an avant-garde film directed in 1980 by Glauber Rocha (b. Brazil, ). It was his last film that despite its commercial disaster has become today a reference of the Cinema Novo in Brazil. Based on the poem by Castro Alves, the film is controversial and polemic where "Glauber combines the prophetic character of Protestantism, the catholic aesthetics (the mystic-sensual baroque) and the Afro-Oriental rituals, and thinks of religion as theater Pop." (Our translation) --p. 8. The present is a critical study of the film, its director and the historical context surrounding its production.
