About This Book
"On a property at the northern end of Chapinero the park was built around Lake Gaitán around 1917 while on the southern periphery of downtown Bogotá, the Luna Park was constructed in 1921. The two parks had things in common: although of different owners, they emerged by private initiative as "amusement parks" and were located on important transport and development axes, such as the Ferrocarril del Norte (Northern Railway), in the case of the Gaitán park, and on the carrera 13 and the river Fucha, in the case of Luna Park south of the city. The Luna Park disappeared in the thirties after being sold for plots, while the Lago Gaitán it survived until the middle of the twentieth century, when its urbanization was carried out in a fulminating way. With the disappearance of these urban landmarks of the twenties, the unfortunate failure in Bogotá of an urban paradigm of the time was consolidated." (HKB Translation) -Page 16.
