Nathanael

The work Nathanaél published in 1786 by the Zurich theologian and writer Johann Caspar Lavater marks the end of the friendship between Lavater and Goethe. Daniela Kohler not only publishes the work for the first time, but also draws a detailed introduction to the religious controversy between Lavater and Goethe. Goethe admired Lavater for his empathy and charism, but responded to Lavater's writings with keen polemics against Christianity. Daniela Kohler, by means of Lavater's theological and literary development, reveals that Zurich's friend Goethe did not have any reason to think and argue about the Christian religion.
