The stories in the collection are largely about the tribulations faced by Punjabi immigrants living in Canada from the early 1970s onwards. Coming from a rural agricultural background in the Punjab to an urban industrialized center in one of the most advanced countries of the world, these migrants face numerous challenges as shown in these thirteen short fictional stories.
