Enxadas de açúcar

Could a novelist, within his narrative, extend the social and economic realities of a given space and time in history? For Mariana Duarte, who analyzed the novelist José Lins Rego (1901-1957), the answer is yes. From the interdisciplinary perspective between history and literature, and theoretical basis in cultural studies, this research enabled us to identify the contribution of each area to describe the cycle of sugar cane in the Northeast of Brazil, checking the economic issues and social period and, particularly, bringing the expansion of knowledge and reflections in interdisciplinary areas mentioned.
