Wiederkehr Der Landschaft Return Of Landscape

Two extreme examples, Venice and Las Vegas, will be illustrated from an unfamiliar point of view. The focus will be on the significance of their respective landscapes: as resource, as cornerstone for urban development, and as cultural memory. The decrease of significance with its devastating ecological, social, and aesthetical consequences will be exposed as well. A rethink is now a necessity, and the amelioration of individual symptoms will not be enough. Prospective strategies for urban development are calling for the return of landscape.
