El santuario de Nuestra Señora de Covadonga

El Real Sitio de Covadonga is located in a superb natural setting known for a small cave with a river that flows from it. In the 7th century muslim armies were defeated at this site, and the Christian victory became associated with the intervention of the Virgin Mary. The "cave of our lady" thus became a sanctuary that has been visited by those on pilgrimage since the middle ages. This publication offers a study of the art-historical patrimony of the Covadonga sanctuary, analyzing its architecture through ruins exhibited in Museo de Covadonga and conserved in the Real Sitio.
