About This Book

The monograph studies the remarkable architecture of one of the earliest-preserved marble stage buildings of the Roman world. The structure is dated by two inscriptions between 30 and 27 BC and remained standing until its collapse in the seventh century. Almost all of the elements of the stage façade were preserved by the transformation of the Theatre into a Byzantine fort. The volume presents a full reconstruction of the building made from long years of study of its architectural elements. This is an important study for the history and development of ancient theatre architecture.
