About This Book

We Built This Beep is a historical documentation project examining the contributions of native Black Americans to the development of the United States. Drawing from more than 200 contemporaneous newspaper articles published during the 19th and 20th centuries, the book presents primary-source records that identify Black American builders, architects, farmers, engineers, business owners, and founders by name, location, and occupation.

Rather than offering interpretation or commentary, the work preserves original newspaper accounts as evidence of labor, innovation, and institutional development that has often been omitted or misattributed in later historical narratives. The material includes announcements, advertisements, public notices, and reports as they appeared in the historical press.

This volume serves as a documentary reference for researchers, historians, genealogists, and readers interested in primary-source records of native Black American history.
