About This Book
This two volume manuscript is a reproduction of an 18th century traveling weaver's pattern book. The original is maintained in the rare book collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The pattern book was originally made by Johann Ludwig Speck in Laasphe Germany and was brought to America by his son Karl, who continued the weaving tradition in colonial America.
I received permission from the Philadelphia Museum to reproduce this book and I've added threading, tie-up and treadling drafts for each of the 84 patterns, as well as biographical research on the Speck family with help from the town of Laasphe Germany.
