RESUMEN: Casi 70.000 muertos produjo la guerra entre el movimiento terrorista Sendero Luminoso y el Estado peruano entre los años ochenta y noventa. Responsable de más de la mitad de las víctimas, Sendero fue el grupo subversivo más letal en la historia del continente americano. Abimael Guzmán, el hombre que condujo toda esa violencia y se consideraba a sí mismo como la -cuarta espada- del comunismo internacional tras Lenin, Stalin y Mao, no llevaba armas. In the 80s and 90s the war between the terrorist Shining Path movement and the Peruvian government resulted in almost 70,000 casualties. Reponsible for more than half of the victims, Shining path was the most lethal subversive group in the history of the American continent. Abimael Guzmán, the man who conducted this violence and who considered himself as the "fourth sword"of international communism after Lenin, Stalin, and Mao, did not take up arms. He had no support from foreign governments. He was never present on the battlefield. Behind a desk, armed with a rigorous ideology, he held an entire country in check for 10 years. His history constitutes a horrifying example of the destructive power of ideas.
