A Cornish maid

Autumn 1909: Edith Trewin, the general maid in the Killivert household, and Miss Alicia, the young lady of the house, are social worlds apart, though they share a streak of independence and intelligence. Edith is imaginative and - though not highly educated - has a way with words and a keen perception of the world. Whereas lively Alicia is irked at being forced to answer to her brother Edwin for the running of the house and the care of her ailing mother.
