Rocío García, 1986/2003

20 year retrospective collection of large format paintings by García (b. Cuba), depicting images of desalinated violence and erotic malice that reflect her skepticism to the promise of a better life in Cuba, officially announced in 1995. Her early production of women as miniature nudes, lost, tied up or subjugated to her paintings of male figures marked by sexual ambiguity, transfiguration and transvestism are meant to cause commotion in a disappointed and submitted society.
