About This Book

Brian Strandbygaard not only introduces the history of ideas in urban planning, but in this book he shuts us into the engine room together with builders, officials, consultants, planners and developers. He provides an insight into the all-encompassing and complex discipline of the country's cities and nature, which is constantly prompted by the urban planning discipline. He outlines the history of urban planning, and analyzes the theories behind the concrete planning. His background both as an urban planner and a philosopher allows him to lift the discussion of the subject to a higher, or perhaps rather more basic level, than the usual interpretations of the urban planning subject. Precisely this, that from the engine room he is still able to look towards the horizon and see the development from above - in a higher historical and philosophical perspective than the practitioner's' is a unique combination that makes up the special quality of this book. At the same time, it tells a not-so-cheerful story about why the entrenched perception of territories gives rise to inequality and instability
