Wat heb je nodig?

Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) together with RDM form the Rotterdam Makers District: the place in the metropolitan region for the innovative manufacturing industry. It is where the city and port meet again - after years of mainly taking a distance from each other. Now M4H is transforming step by step into a new living and working area. As a 'city port', it is therefore the ideal place to explore, visualize and test the transition to the future of Rotterdam. The city port links the world to the productive city with its supply and discharge flows of enormous amounts of raw materials, (semi-)finished products and waste. In the circular economy, these flows will have to be shortened, valued and eventually closed. The extent to which this succeeds depends on local skills, enterprising people and places that are ready. In 'What do you need? Circular area development in M4H' Team 1010 explores the spatial link between the transitions in energy and raw materials, the new economy of the city and the socio-economic development of its residents. This research shows in concrete terms how a city port such as M4H can develop into a nursery for a circular manufacturing industry

Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) vormt samen met RDM het Rotterdam Makers District: dé plek in de metropoolregio voor de innovatieve maakindustrie. Het is waar stad en haven elkaar opnieuw ontmoeten - na jarenlang vooral afstand van elkaar te hebben genomen. Nu transformeert M4H stap voor stap tot een nieuw woon- en werkgebied. Als 'stadshaven' is het dan ook dé plek om de transitie naar het toekomstig Rotterdam te verkennen, te verbeelden en te testen. De stadshaven koppelt de wereld met haar aan- en afvoerstromen van enorme hoeveelheden grondstoffen, (half)fabricaten en afval aan de productieve stad. In de circulaire economie zullen deze stromen moeten worden verkort, gewaardeerd en uiteindelijk worden gesloten. De mate waarin dat lukt hangt af van lokale vaardigheden, ondernemende mensen en plekken die er klaar voor zijn. In 'Wat heb je nodig? Circulaire gebiedsontwikkeling in M4H' verkent Team 1010 de ruimtelijke koppeling tussen de transities op het vlak van energie en grondstoffen, de nieuwe economie van de stad en de sociaaleconomische ontwikkeling van haar bewoners. Dit onderzoek laat zo concreet zien hoe een stadshaven als M4H zich kan ontwikkelen tot kraamkamer voor een circulaire maakindustrie
