About This Book
Within the last few years there has been a revival of the use of crayon and chalk in many phases of church work, and more especially in the branch known as religious education. It was searching for material of this nature that prompted the author to write the book, Chalk Talk Made Easy, which was issued in early 1932. The reception by the public given to its first edition far exceeded the expectation of author and publisher. In less than a year the first edition was sold. As the book, Chalk Talk Made Easy, was a book for beginners and taught the elementary principles of crayon and chalk work, as well as giving over 300 sketches, it created a demand for a book of programs to be used in religious education, church school, and religious meetings in general. The publishers, therefore, asked the author to compile the present work, and the book -- Chalk Talk Programs -- you have in your hand is the result. Chalk Talk Programs is compiled from the many programs the author has used in his years of experience as a chalk artist, and although many of the ideas for sketches and thoughts may be similar to those used by other artists, yet each has his own way of presentation and his mode of expression is different. In the text accompanying each sketch it is not the intention of the author for this to be used in a strict sense, but more to convey the idea and thus permit individual liberty of thought and expression. The illustrations in this book were all drawn by the author. - Introduction.
