"This book analyzes the phenomenon of the cultural contact between the Nashuas and Spaniards from the study of two objects: the tonalamatl - a pre-Hispanic nahua codice of ritual content and the European book. The book reflects on the transformations suffered by the tonalamatl as the result of the introduction of the book and Western literary traditions to America. Starting from the premise that each of these objects was associated with an epistemology, a material and intellectual culture which has no reference with that "other world", this approach allows the understanding of the aspects about the material world, and also about the forms of Nahua thought."
