Over a period of 15 years, the City of Zurich Building Authority has organised 62 architectural competitions resulting in the construction of 6000 apartments and contributing to the excellent reputation of residential development in Zurich. This floor plan manual does not only keep a record of the typical floor plans of the winning competition projects. It also shows the wide range of innovative types of floor plans which, on one hand, challenge and develop established room layouts and, on the other hand, come up with new and unconventional concepts while checking their practical suitability in everyday life. This enormous variety of ideas has played an important part in the residential developments of recent years. It fundamentally broadened the ideas and expectations in housing- a topic which seemed to be exhausted for a long time.
