Henning Strassburger

"It is a well-worn cliché that painting, in the age of the digital image, finds itself in a difficult, not to say precarious, position. Caught in its apparent inability to find its own voice in the age when images have become a language in their own right, devoid of anything but the most facile attempts of interpretation (c.f.: Snapchat filters), painting struggles to articulate its sense of purpose beyond decoration.
