Young Romy Ellyn was perfectly happy holidaying alone in Mexico – a well-deserved treat made possible by her grandmother’s legacy – but Don Delgado de Avarado y Valcazar, that dark-browed autocrat who disapproved of self-reliant women, made his opinion of her only too clear. Yet when, as the result of an unhappy accident, the two of them were caught in a compromising situation, he insisted that to save her reputation, and more important, his own! – she must agree to pose as his fiancée, and he thereupon whisked her off to his hacienda to be presented to his mother as his future wife.
