About This Book
"During April, the Frumkin Gallery will show paintings, drawings and constructions by Roy DeForest. There are nine major new paintings in the current exhibition and they document his work since the Whitney Museum's retrospective exhibition in 1975.The new paintings continue DeForest's interest in the animal kingdom; dogs, rabbits, and horses abound. Many of the new paintings are set in bucolic landscapes, and there is a new density and complexity to the images, as well as different palette from the preceding paintings.Roy DeForest has lived and worked in Northern California for many years. He has show widely in Califormia, as well as throughout the USA and, of late, in Europe. His personal imagery and fantasy have become well-known over the years, and this marks his fourth one-man show at the Frumkin Gallery in New York. His last show coincided with the Whitney Retrospective in 1975, and the major work from that exhibition, Canoe of Fate, was acquired by the Philadelphia Museum of Art."
