About This Book
The publication is the result of a research project developed over more than five years, with the competition of state and national educational institutions, which highlights the material legacy that is still preserved in the northern and western part of the state of Hidalgo. Field and in-site research was conducted with a large group of professionals from different disciplines, and architecture students from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Instituto Tecnológico de Pachuca, who helped with on-site surveys and drawings of building plans. It highlights the description of a series of buildings belonging to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, which is already studied under a project called Análisis Histórico y Arquitectónico de los Conventos de Frontera (Historical and Architectural Analysis of the Convents of Frontera). The author states that the convents of Chichicaxtla are unique monuments in their architectural and stylistic characteristics, so it is important to preserve their values through proper restoration, and explains that the architectural complex consists of two convents: the first called the Old Church of Chichicaxtla, with an atrium, open chapel, swordsman and convent, and that it is preserved unchanged in the original architectural program.
