Performance of land transportation vehicles

This Memorandum examines certain limitations, some practical considerations, and numerical examples in developing equations of motion for various vehicle propulsion systems. The main body of the study consists of four appendixes: (A) an analysis and summary of published information on vehicle resistance; (B) an analysis and summary of published information on the propulsion generated by various types of energy conversion systems; (C) acceleration-speed and time curves for various vehicle propulsion systems; and (D) equations of motion for the four phases of a typical trip: accelerating, deceleration, traveling at constant velocity, and remaining stationary.
