Snuffle of Pekes

Rumer Godden, in her history of the Pekingese dog entitled ***Butterfly Lions***, quotes from the legend of the lioness who fell in love with a butterfly, telling us the result of this mating were the Pekingese dogs who 'ever afterwards have to be as brave as lions and as dainty as butterflies'. In this book, dedicated to Rumer Godden, Valerie Miles and Norma Proctor have captured in prose, colour and verse a living history of a Snuffle of Pekes, who, perhaps represent the characteristics of their breed.
