Their captain of the guard has a love affair with a fairy. They must cope with bandits, Scottish raiders, and pagan gods. The story is set in 12th Century England after the end of the Second Crusade, 1149, and before the beginning of the Third, 1189. During this time England was ruled by the House of Plantagenet, Henry II, 1154 – 1189 and his son Richard I, the Lion Hearted, 1189-1199. The manor is located in the Northeastern England; assume Northumberland, about three days on horseback inland from the English Channel and the same from the border with Scotland. It is a mix of fact, fable, and sheer fantasy
