L' occupation de la Crète (1897-1909)

A classic analysis of the legal issues involved in the occupation by four Western Powers of the Island of Crete, then an Ottoman province in a state of insurrection, in 1896 and its gradual detachment from Ottoman rule and sovereignty by the end of 1898 as a prelude to its subsequent eventual transfer to Greece. It began as a doctoral thesis in Paris but is an outstanding piece of work.
