About This Book

Homage edition dedicated to artist Manuel Pérez Coronado "Mapeco" (b. Mexico 1929-1970), a native of Uruapan, Michoacán. The book rediscovers the artist, his artistic legacy and his work as a passionate leftist activist who was jailed and persecuted by the Mexican government in the 1960's. He was a member of the TGP and founded the Taller-Escuela de Uruapan. The book is divided in 3 parts: the first analyzes his life, his artistic legacy and the historic context he lived in. The second part comprises critical texts on his artwork, colorful paintings with a deep local influence. Finally the third part is a bibliographical catalogue of the academic work of Pérez Coronado in Michoacán and his disciples including Efraín Vargas, Cecilio Carlos Rea and others.
