The academic community

For universities, the traditional model of governance has been one defined by a consensus-oriented decision-making process, wherein the academic community is self-organizing, which does not require an external hierarchical authority. With the expansion of enrollment, the enlargement of activities undertaken, and continual financial difficulties, many in higher education have embraced the idea that improved organization is a way of addressing these problems. This volume examines the question of organization within an academic community.
