About This Book

Annotated in manuscript, possibly by Sir Edward Walter Hamilton (1847-1908), a Treasury official and private secretary to Gladstone. The signature, E.W. Hamilton appears on the front lining paper. The "Memorandum on the question of establishing a national or state bank" was published as Appendix no.16 of the Select committee on the bank acts of the House of Commons, 1858. Sir Robert Peel's Act of 1844 has title page with imprint: London, Printed by Harrison and Sons.
