Franz Marcs Prisma

Winter 1911. The painter Franz Marc looks through a prism at his painting Dog Lying in the Snow. How does this impact his art? This volume investigates, for the first time, the premises and implications of a little-known story. Marc's prismatic method is retraced with the help of art technological and scientific techniques. The results open up a new perspective on the close interplay of science, colour theory and optics in Franz Marc's work.
