Chuines, boleros y sarandunga en Bani

Dominican sociologist and researcher Tejeda Ortiz offers a new look at Dominican folk and music traditions known as "chuines" (popular oral poetry), "boleros" and "sarandungas" (Afro-dominican music and dance) in Baní, a city in southern part of the country. In the Dominican Republic, syncretism between African traditions and Catholicism and folk traditions often manifests itself in songs and rituals.
