About This Book
Includes the annotated text and facsimiles, as well as an introductory historical and critical essay, of two works. Discurso en loor de la poesía, by an anonymous Peruvian author known as Clarinda (a name given her by Ricardo Palma in the nineteenth century), was originally published in 1608 as the prologue to Diego Mexía Fernangil's Primera Parte del Parnaso Antártico de Obras Amatorias. Epístola a Belardo, first published in 1621 as part of Lope de Vega's La Filomena, is a love poem addressed to the Spanish writer by Amarilis, an anonymous Peruvian woman (likely María de Rojas y Garay, according to the research of Guillermo Lohmann Villena).
