Brought into a world of hate against her will, the caspin, Veraisa, finds herself captured and imprisoned by her enemies, forced to fight for their entertainment. Finding life meaningless with each passing day, Veraisa clings to the one hope that she will survive and make it back to her homeland. However, her soul is not without its own sorrows, as she soon finds out when pitted against one of her very own kin. And his death taints her soul even further than any gruesome deed or lie ever had in her past, as well as promising her certain death should she make it home. With her escape made, Veraisa finds help in the most unlikely of places in the home of one of her enemies. Tamed by his song, and healed by his hands and caring gestures, Veraisa finds that in a world so wrought with sorrow and hatred, hope still lingers.
