Pascoe, Prince of Gobir

The life story of a real 19th century African named Pascoe, originally Abubakar. After a stint as a British navy seaman, he travelled extensively on expeditions as a servant and interpreter -- to Egypt; deep into present day Nigeria (Pascoe's home country); and, down the river Niger by canoe to discover the river's (then unknown) end in a delta with outlets to the sea.
