About This Book

Until now, the voices of the Uruguayan textile artists were rarely heard outside the intimate circuit of local art. Historically only the most visible leaders of the Uruguayan textile movement have left marks in mass media, and the rest remained just as a background or listing of names and works. The present catalog brings together interviews to twenty-three artists ranging since the pioneer generation of the 1960œs, with Ernesto Aróztegui, Cecilia Brugnini and Mario España, the 1980's with an important group of new artists, to the new century when it became a significant tapestry movement in Uruguay.
