About This Book
Sebastian Stumpf places his own body in relation to the urban spaces, urban constructions and to pedestrians. He uses fire prevention spaces between high-rise buildings or closing garage doors for small interventions that he always performs himself. In this combination of performance and photography he enacts absurd movements that contradict the predefined urban order. By repeating exactly the same movements in different places, his photographs and videos come to focus less on the need for order in urban spaces and more on their potential for individual and idiosyncratic action. Stumpf's camera angles are very precise compositions of urban arrangements, to which he adds his personal performative elements. He sets his actions against the purely factual gaze of the camera.00Exhibition: Museum of Contemporary Art Guangzhou, China (08.12.2019 - 23.02.2020).
