About This Book

Birth registration has increasingly become a policy concern in South Africa. The post-apartheid government has committed itself to issues related to the welfare of children. The South African Constitution states that every child has the right to a name and nationality from birth. The recently promulgated Children's Act also ensures a better future for children in this country. This Act makes it compulsory for children and caregivers to be in possession of a valid birth certificate in order to access government services including social grants.
