In 1531 Titu, son of a humble farmer, leaves his village on the high interior plateau of the Andes to go to Cuzco to serve the King, Inca Huascar. He serves in the civil war between Huascar and his brother, and after Huascar's death vows to avenge it. He makes his way alone to the Spaniards' camp. War between the Incas and Spaniards follows.
