This book is designed to be of direct assistance to all grades of amateur production. There is a dire need in schools for someone trained in dramatic work as well as English, for it is so often the teacher of English to whose lot it falls to coach the play. The fact that dramatic activity is considered as extracurricular, and not of any definite educational importance ignores the fact that dramatization offers an appealing outlet for self-expression, especially in the young. Teachers with some training could help in establishing a better understanding of play values, producing possibilities, and dramatic taste in students. It is hoped that the lists compiled herein will be of some assistance to smaller schools, and thus help to raise the standards for dramatics in educational settings. Educators should understand the possibilities drama creates--helping to shape and form personalities, teach moral lessons, and cultivate appreciation for artistic endeavors of all kinds.
