Les monstres hybrides dans l'art médiéval

Carved on the walls of churches, cathedrals portals, but also painted in the illuminations of liturgical and secular manuscripts, hybrid monsters-human and animal figures-appear in profusion in the art of the Middle Ages. Made visible by these devices, they eventually exist in the eyes of the men of that time. The image is the belief in their existence, is the visible manifestation of an invisible world. Contemporary adage: Seeing is believing is inverse to the medieval period: You have to see it to believe it. The main study period is between the eleventh and thirteenth century with the two main hatch artistic movements of the Middle Ages, Romanesque and gothique. L'ouvrage art is embellished with 126 drawings by the author representing monsters from sculpture and illuminations of medieval manuscripts.
